Volunteer with New Directions

Our Volunteering Programme at New Directions means that we can offer experience in key skills across all areas of our services. Giving valuable work experience and opportunities to those willing to give up their time to support us in our facilities across the North West.

We rely on the kindness of our volunteers and value every aspect of what they bring to us to make New Directions possible. If you feel you have the core values that we stand by, being Big Hearted, Count on Us, Together as One and you are People focused then we would love to hear from you.

Our Amazing Volunteers

Eileen Lindsay – Waterloo Park Day Service Volunteer

I have been with New Directions for about 27 years.

When I visited Waterloo Park, and I immediately felt the warmth and spirit or the centre, I decided to come for a trial day to see it turned out. After only one day, I knew it was for me.

Coming to Waterloo Park has given me many things ;-

1. Feeling of self worth and being valued.

2. I get enormous joy at seeing the pleasure that the Service Users get from the continuous social interaction, where there is much humour and lots and lots of laughter.

3. It has rekindled my “Faith in human kindness” which I had sadly lost.

Waterloo Park is a shining example of what a day service is really all about.

Eileen supports service users with her vast knowledge of local history and reminiscence sessions.

Linda Byrne – Waterloo Park Day Service Volunteer

I am 68 years old and retired from 20 years at P and O freight sales then 25 years as a School Business Manager and tutor at MMU on Business Management.

I then worked at Jospice as Events Manager for 6 years. I have organised and led disabled groups many times to Lourdes, led youth groups, done a mile long zip wire, abseiled , florist in church and choir, Chair of Finance at local HighSchool over 20 years and much more besides!

So as you see not one to dither I love to be active, supportive and enjoying life.

My sister Anne Jones works at Waterloo  Day Centre so when help was needed to deliver meals I became  a volunteer driver. This went on for about 12 months and I now like to spend an afternoon each week with the clients doing crafts.

My motivation is this….. I believe whatever you input to your community keeps everything in balance,  that s it,

Brenda Davies – Waterloo Park Day Service Volunteer

Brenda is a fantastic edition to the Waterloo Park family. She offers a wide variety of craft and fun sessions for the people who attend. The staff and attenders love Brendas flower arranging classes and she always brings joy, love and laughter to everything she does.

Anthony King – Head Office Communications Volunteer

After attending New Directions’ Bootle Day Centre for over 10 years, I was offered the opportunity to become a volunteer within the Communications Team at Head Office as I have strong IT and design skills.  I commenced my new role in January 2021.  The main project I have been involved with this year is to create a new website for New Directions.  I have been able to contribute towards this project and proud of what we have achieved.  There are many other ideas and projects planned for the future, which I can play a key role in and am looking forward to the future.

New Directions is proud to say, we have a band of volunteers who provide invaluable support, mostly within our day services

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering for New Directions, we would be more than happy to discuss possible opportunities with you.
